Our role as a regulator

We’re focused on protecting public health. We focus our regulatory efforts where they’ll make the biggest difference to drinking water safety, while being fair and consistent with everyone.

    We may take compliance and enforcement action to address public health risks and ensure drinking water suppliers meet legislative requirements. Our compliance and enforcement activity is transparent, fair, proportionate and risk-based.

    A water supplier may apply for an enforceable undertaking to acknowledge areas of possible non-compliance with the Water Services Act 2021.
