Standards, Rules, Aesthetic Values and Acceptable Solutions
We have developed drafts for new Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules, Drinking Water Standards, Aesthetic Values, and Acceptable Solutions. We welcomed feedback on these during public consultation, which closed on 28 March 2022.
The new Drinking Water Standards were set by the Minister of Local Government on 9 June 2022 and will come into effect on 14 November 2022.
The existing Drinking-water Standards for New Zealand (DWSNZ) will continue to apply until replaced by new standards (expected around 1 July 2022). Read our guidance on operating under the current Drinking-water Standards when they don’t align with the Water Services Act 2021.
