Wastewater register
We may establish and maintain a public register of wastewater networks.
The public register of wastewater networksoutbound includes information about municipal wastewater networks that collect and treat wastewater from our cities and towns, most of which are operated by local authorities (usually city or district councils) or their subsidiaries.
The register currently includes a limited range of information on networks operated by councils for cities, towns and other communities. The basic data identifies each:
- network
- operator of the network
- resource consent that authorises effluent (treated wastewater) discharge from a wastewater treatment plant
- receiving environment to which discharge is made (e.g. land, freshwater or sea).
In the future, we intend to update the register:
- annually with some of the information network operators provide as part of Network Environmental Performance Measures
- to include information on the networks of government departments and the New Zealand Defence Force.
If you have any questions about the measures or register, please contact us at measures@taumataarowai.govt.nz.
Database of wastewater resource consents
Alongside the register, we developed a database of wastewater resource consents to inform the first set of proposed wastewater environmental performance standards. This database summarises requirements in resource consents for wastewater discharges from publicly owned and operated wastewater treatment plants and networks. It includes detail about what contaminants (and corresponding limits) wastewater must be treated to control, alongside other consent conditions.
